What is Friedreich's Ataxia?
Description
Friedreich's ataxia (FRDA) is a rare, genetic, neurodegenerative, multi-system, life-shortening disorder. About one in 50,000 people in the United States have Friedreich's ataxia. Onset of symptoms is usually between the ages of 5 and 15, sometimes even earlier and sometimes significantly later. FARA is supporting research that will improve the quality and length of life for those diagnosed with Friedreich's ataxia and will lead to treatments that eliminate its symptoms.

Symptoms

muscle weakness and loss of coordination (ataxia) in the arms and legs
vision impairment, hearing loss, and slurred speech
aggressive scoliosis (curvature of the spine)
diabetes mellitus or carbohydrate intolerance
a serious heart condition (enlarged heart — hypertrophic cardiomyopathy)
These symptoms reflect the death of cells in certain parts of the nervous system. The mental capabilities of people coping with Friedreich's ataxia, however, remain completely intact. For most, progressive loss of muscle strength and control leads to motor incapacitation and the full-time use of a wheelchair by the late teens or early twenties. Many require surgery for their scoliosis. There are currently no treatments or cures.

The course of the disorder is progressive. Most young people diagnosed with FRDA require mobility aids such as a cane, walker, or wheelchair by their teens or early 20s.

FARA-supported research and scientific conferences provide hope and accelerate research leading to treatments or cure for people diagnosed with Friedreich's ataxia and for those coping with the related Sporadic Ataxias.

Inheriting Friedreich's Ataxia
Friedreich's ataxia is inherited recessively; that is, a person develops the disorder only when he or she inherits genes from both parents. About 1 in 90 people of European ancestry carry the FRDA gene and most of them do not know it. There is a higher incidence of FRDA in the French / Acadian population of south Louisiana. In 1996, an international group of scientists — with cooperation and support from patients, patient families, and their physicians — identified the gene, cloned it, and decoded its sequence. The gene (called X25) was found on the 9th chromosome and carries the instructions for making a protein that was not previously known. The protein was named after the disorder and is called frataxin.

hopefully with our help we can defeat this aweful disease and teach it no to mess with our kids in honor if this charity collection i am taking my childrens pictures down and would love to post your childrens pictures up if you would like to send me these wonderful childrens pictures or Pictures as Adults so we can see the angels we are fighting for. So its 2008 and I decided this morning to check out my friends blog. Let me tell you about Jimbo. He is like the Grandpa I never had see my one and only i ever had died along with my Grandma when i was 2. Long story but thanks to a brain tumor he went a little crazy and the next morning my mom and dad were planning funerals. Lets skip to several years later when i decided that crocheting should become an Olympic sport and a wooden hook was a necessity. Off to search my fav website Crochetville in hope of finding a great hook idea. Then pops up Jimbo and let me tell you i drooled and drooled even begged to be allowed by my hubby to move up there near jimbo lol.
You see Jimbo is the type of man that would give you his shirt off his back if you needed it no questions asked and 2 hooks later one for me and one for my mom and lots of nice emails sending his support while my granny was passing away, I realized this man should be King.
I was always told that kids think their grandpas can do no wrong they can fix or solve any problem and do it with humor and in away that makes any 5 yr olds eyes light up and Jimbo he is this kinda guy. The guy that reminds me of my dad when my kids look up to him.
So all this comes back to my friend Donna saying take a look at Jimbos Website so off to surf the web i went.
I found this awesome article on his blog about an organization that he supported. I did as I was told by him and went to read up on it. I was floored it is an awesome organization and I want yall to check it out.

New Bag I made for My Mom.....

I finally finished my bag and I am going to give it to my mom who is having a really rough time still dealing with my granny's passing. I figure one day I will come across more time to make me one but for now I will be off making all the items for Christmas gifts and donations. I need to get them done before they start the biopsy or any other testing so i know it is done.

Bad news at E.R.

So I was in pain on Tuesday night all night and it was awful. It was chest paina nd I was scared to death couldnt sleep a wink and no pain medicine would help. Off I go to the E.R. Wed. Morning and after almost 6 hours we finally get the word of what is going on. First off the chest wall was bruised somehow on the inside and on top of that I had gallbladder disease known to many as simply Gallstones and nice big ones and not at all comfortable. So then the dr goes and also on your ct scan we found what seems to be a good size xyst on your right breast which needs to be looked at immediatly. I guess I sat there for a few minutes and then it hit me no way does my family need this havent we been through enough. Now this my life seemed to almost stop why would I need to have this to deal with. I am still stund as i type this I will definitely keep you posted on the findings as I am heading to the specialist asap next week as soon as my referral gets put in. Now as I told my uncle the news today he then said we have got some serious problems it seems the dr also found a lump on his lungs yesterday at his already scheduled ct scan. So now I guess we can share a room as we go on the journey together. I pray that his is not cancer as my granny that just passed was his mom and he took it pretty hard. Now we sit here trying to figure out how to tell my mom who is actually out of town the findings.

New Hobby Making Bags

So I guess I am hooked literally lol.. But ever since i did the freeform bags for the purse swap i am hooked on making bags which is a bad thing in a way, since i am trying to get x-mas gifts done too. Only so much time in a day to hook as they say lol. I am pulling out a pattern that I have wanted to do for a long time and a woman who is very dear to me has finally talked me into it lol ok it wasnt that hard I was really just worried I couldnt do the pattern justice. I am a better freeformer than a pattern reader lol. So here it is the start of a new era.
I will keep ya'll updated... This picture is from earlier tonight before i even got done with the first panel im on the back panel now so maybe we will get lucky and it will turn out perfect. Ok well one can wish can't she?

Although I said i would stick to the pattern i kept going and didnt like the way it was looking so i went back and started freeforming and these turned out. Anniversary Shopping Spree

So our anniversary was September 27. We are on our 4th yr of happiness here. It also happened to be my hubby's 30th birthday. Woohooo.. Before yall say it yes we got married on his birthday and no it wasnt so he could always remember it lol he is a number man he remembers everything that has numbers in it lol. But it was great we got to go out to dinner and lunch and we also went shopping. This is what he bought me and I am so easy to please give me yarn and hooks anyday please lol. CeCe is Better 100%

The vet gave our CeCe a clean bill of health she is back on heartworm meds and has gotten all her new shots and boosters. Thank God for this I dont know what we would have done if we would have lost her too. The kids are still ahving a hard time with CoCo being gone but each day it gets better with CeCe doing so good. I took these pics this mornign when she got up. She sleeps in a pen like area for now due to Austin getting up at night and stepping on her when he goes to potty. Poor thing he gets so sad too and doesnt make it when he does it so we put her a pen up in the kids room and it seems to be better.

So I am on my second Market Bag. I am in love with this bag and making it just seems to come so easy to me. I am currently on my second bag in 24 hours lol. This time I am using the color Falling Leaves which is a Tlc Essentials Color. it is actually a lot darker than the picture shows. ill update the blog as soon as the bag is finished.

Coco Dies Today

Ugh its been a long Day here....

They say when it rains it pours and boy let me tell you it is flooding... The last 2 days one of my puppies have been sick and had an upset stomach well last night he looked as he was feeling better and even jumpng on and off the couch he was a shitzus well we had 2 of them a girl adn a boy this am my hubby went to check on them and there the girl was wimpering over the boy dog who died late last night my kids are heartbroken of course we called the vet ran the girl to them to get her checked and now she is on a lot of meds and stuff but is going to be fine the boy we buried in my parents back yard it seems as thougha stray dog who we chased off of our property 5 days ago brought a virus with him and because we have always had our dogs shots and stuff they are now a year old monday we never thought anything serious was wrong we thought that the kids had fed the boy one something that didnt agree with him the vet says there was nothing that we could have done it happened so fast but we have saved our girl for now just a lot of babying im now trying to make new puppy toys and i need to make a new blanket for her as i had to throw away everything just to be safe and we had to get new dsihes and i guess ill make her a new bed she is so sad but she is eating good and the vet says she will be ok my kids especially austin is so sad since it was his dog.. sorry this is long just needed i guess to ge tit out to someone im trying so hard to be strong for them thanks for listening

SO the Doom Day came adn so it is the military better yet the Air Force decided to force 20k people out my hubby was one of them. A man who spends his everyday working his Ass off for them even went on TDY during my serious surgery to make them happy they decide they dont need him. He lives and breaths the military and they decide he is able to be without we are at war and they dont want him better yet they want to force him to the Army instead and i have nothing wrong with the army its not them but the air force is what has done this to this good man. He feels defeated and it is wrong they are going to see in a few months that they needed these people they forced out then what.. Im so sorry that I had to vent I really just needed a few minutes to get it off my chest thanks for listening

My New Hooks

So the pictures are not the best due to not having a real camera i had to use my cell phone camera grrr. My other camera is dead and the charger is mia again lol.

The first here is my new lighted hook I am in love and am using it to due my new RR ( round Ripple)

This here is my new Magique hook set that i am going to use doing my thread crocheting since i am now doing this new cash for stash thingy lol that means try to use your stash no worries though you can steal buy yarn yes i know my hubby was excited till he heard i could still buy and since hobby lobby has a sale who knows huh lol...

Ok want to learn about my new item so we bought Halie and Austin some of those new skecher shoes kinda look like crocs but htey are skechers well the box is perfect for rolls of yarn and they have a great little whole in the ends to feed the yarn through im serious you have to try this.
